Dear Parents,
Private Nicholas Minue School was named after World War II Congressional Medal recipient, Nicholas Minue, who was a resident of Carteret. We, at Minue School, are proud to be a community of learners that dedicates itself to the academic achievement of our students. The administration and the faculty realize that an optimum elementary school education is essential preparation for student success in middle school, high school, and beyond. Recognizing our students' unique and diverse academic, emotional, social, and physical needs, we promote their growth by helping them to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, effective communicators, and caring citizens who will be able to function effectively in the future global society. We accomplish our goal for our students by providing a meaningful curriculum, excellence in instruction, and continuous communication among parents, teachers, students, and the community.
Minue School is a Pre-K through grade five school. We have twenty-seven self-contained classes. In addition to the core content areas of Language Arts and Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, our students in grades kindergarten through grade five receive instruction in World Language (Spanish), Technology, Physical Education, and the Visual and Performing Arts. Our school also offers an Academic Enrichment program to assist students who may need additional help in Language Arts and Literacy and/or Mathematics. An Academic Challenge Program is also offered to students who meet or exceed the district testing guidelines for the program. Students who are learning English as a second language and qualify for services are also provided with ESL classes. Children in need of Special Education services are provided with Resource Centers and four teachers working with the In-Class Support Program. We also offer speech, occupational, and physical therapy programs for students who are need of such services. A vice-principal and a guidance counselor support our administrative team.
Our school collaborates with a number of Carteret and Middlesex County agencies to provide programs on fire prevention, drug awareness, prevention of child abuse, and ecology. In addition to participation in these programs with the community, Minue students also participate in a character education program. We are currently using a character counts program, where, as a school, we focus on a different character trait every two months. Students are recognized and rewarded for demonstrating random acts of kindness and the pillars of character. We also continue to focus on anti-bullying and anti-violence education in all of our classes.
This past year Minue School's third and fourth-graders reached the Annual Yearly Progress in both Language Arts and Literacy and Mathematics. The school has set goals to continue to improve Language Arts and Literacy in grades three, four, and five. We have also set goals to continue to improve Mathematics in grade five. Our faculty is committed to providing each student with a quality education. Teachers set high expectations for our students and they design learning experiences so that our students are engaged in meaningful and challenging lessons. All of our teachers meet the highly qualified teacher standard. As a community of learners, our teachers engage in a variety of continuous professional development activities to further their knowledge in research-based teaching practices.
Minue School is a culturally rich diverse school that offers students a safe, orderly, and challenging learning environment that supports academic and social-emotional growth for all students. The faculty values working as a team with students, parents, and the community in order to develop individual student strengths to their fullest potential and to maximize academic achievement for all students.
