Mrs. Susan Cherney

Director of Special & Related Services

Susan Cherney, Director of Special and Related Services and 504 Coordinator, has been employed by the Carteret School District for over 30 years. She began her career as a K-8 Basic Skills Teacher in Washington and Nathan Hale Schools. She later went on to teach third and fourth grades in Lincoln and Columbus Elementary Schools. Ms. Cherney was a member of the Child Study Team as a Learning Disability Teacher Consultant (LDT-C) for 12 years prior to becoming the Supervisor of Special Education. She was appointed Director of Special Education and 504 Coordinator in May of 2018. Ms. Cherney has served as a Student Council Advisor, I&RS Team member and currently is a member of the District's Crisis Team. Ms. Cherney graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in English, and earned her M.A. in Special Education from Kean University.  Ms. Cherney completed the Educational Leadership Program through NJEXCEL.
