    Grades K-5

  • All fifth grade students learn about financial literacy during the second marking period. Working with Junior Achievement, students participate in Junior Achievement Biztown, a program that introduces students to personal financial planning and career exploration. At the culmination of this teacher-led program, students visit JA Biztown, a realistic on-site or virtual community, to put into practice what they've learned by developing and committing to a personal budget.

    SOCIAL STUDIES-Early World

    Sixth graders study the origins of human beings in Africa and the early civilizations that developed in the Mediterranean: Sumer, Assyria, Babylonia, and Phoenicia.  They also study the ancient civilizations of Egypt, India, China, Greece, Rome, the Byzantines, and the Muslims. Time is spent discussing the religions of polytheism, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam, as well as the governments, trade, philosophies, and arts of these ancient civilizations.  Our sixth grade students will learn about the ideas that shaped the course of world history.  These ideas include monotheism, the rule of law, democracy, individual worth, personal responsibility, a writing system using the principle of an alphabet, and scientific reasoning.

    SOCIAL STUDIES –U.S. History 1 

    Students study the development of American history from the Revolution to the Civil War with a major unit being comprised of civics and the Constitution.  This course will provide students with information to understand themes of history; illustrate how place and location can mean different things; consider how people relate to their environment and to each other; comprehend, evaluate, analyze the Bill of Rights and Constitution and the branches of Government; understand the effects on United States life resulting from foreign conflicts; develop an appreciation of the American Judicial System; recognize and be able to provide examples of doublespeak and euphemisms that often lessen the horrors of war; understand the “how’s and whys” of the origins of American Indians and the explorers of America; develop an understanding of the American Cultures and corresponding historical backgrounds; students will develop an appreciation of prominent figures past and present.

    SOCIAL STUDIES – U.S. History II

    Year two of American History picks up the chronology of major events after the Civil War focusing on Reconstruction, western expansion, rise of industry, World War I, World War II, the Holocaust, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and the major events of the 21st C.  This course will provide students with information to understand themes of history; illustrate how place and location can mean different things; consider how people relate to their environment and to each other;  understand the effects on United States life resulting from foreign conflicts; develop an appreciation of the American Judicial System; recognize and be able to provide examples of doublespeak and euphemisms that often lessen the horrors of war; develop an understanding of the American Cultures and corresponding historical backgrounds; develop an appreciation of prominent figures past and present.

    GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY

    This course teaches technology skills as the platform for the study of current global students for the ever-growing responsibilities as participating citizens of the global society in the 21st century.

    SOCIAL STUDIES LAB

    This course takes the elements and concepts from the 6th grade Science curriculum and presents project based experiences for students.

    INTRODUCTION TO CODING

    This subject is aimed at students with little or no programming experience. It aims to provide students with an understanding of the role computation can play in solving problems. It also aims to help students, regardless of their experience, to feel confident of their ability to write small programs that allow them to accomplish useful goals.

    ADVANCED CODING

    This subject is aimed at students with programming and coding experience. It aims to provide students with a higher level of understanding of the role coding can play in solving problems and software development. The students with this experience will be able to write programs that allow them to accomplish useful goals higher level projects.

    GLOBAL RESEARCH

    This course teaches technology research skills as the platform for the study of current global events. . The goal of the course is to enhance appropriate research skills while exploring current global issues. The course will  preparing students for their ever-growing responsibilities as participating citizens of the global society in the 21st century.

    This course takes the elements and concepts from the 7th grade Science curriculum and presents project based experiences for students.

    CODING AND GAMING

    Expands upon coding and infuses basic game design with a focus on core programming concepts and common game mechanics. Some prior knowledge of coding or game development is assumed. Several hands-on game programming assignments demonstrate real world implementations of concepts

    GLOBAL CONFLICT

    In a literacy based program students will learn about historical and social developments of major regions and powers of the world; the history of political and economic interactions of the regions; the theory behind conflict management; and conflict resolution through peacekeeping and peacebuilding process.  

    GLOBAL PRESENTATIONS

    This course teaches presentation skills using technology as the platform for the study of current global events. . The goal of the course is to enhance students’ digital presentation skills while exploring current global issues. The course will prepare students for their ever-growing responsibilities as participating citizens of the global society in the 21st century.
