• Carteret Public Schools Nursing Information

  • The Carteret Public School System is dedicated to providing high quality consistent medical care to all its students throughout the district.  To accomplish this it has maintained a Certified School Nurse in each building in the system.  Certified School Nurses are registered nurses with at least a 4 year college degree, that have gone on to receive further education specific to caring for students in a school setting.  School nursing is based in public health and focuses on the health and well being of students.  These nurses verify that students have the proper immunizations, physicals and follow up care needed to be in school.  They provide vision, hearing, blood pressure and scoliosis screening on a New Jersey state mandated schedule.  They administer medications and treatments necessary to allow students with chronic medical conditions to be in school on a regular basis.  The school nurse  works closely with the school physician and children's private physicians to provide high quality medical care.
