National Elementary Honor Society
The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) strives to generate enthusiasm for scholarship, promote leadership skills, develop character, and stimulate community service. The Carteret Middle School is proud to have a National Elementary Honor Society chapter in our school. Students are required to meet the NEHS high standards of scholarship, responsibility, service, and leadership. Eligible students in grades five and six must meet the minimum 90% in core subject areas (Math, Reading/Language Arts, Science, Social Studies). The faculty council reviews teacher recommendations and student applications. Upon acceptance, members attend NEHS meetings as well as participate in community and school service projects.
The NEHS is involved in various activities that help promote the pillars of responsibility, service, and leadership. These activities include Morning Announcements, Operation Gratitude Veteran aid, Read Across America and Reading Buddies, Replenish Food Drives, St. Peter’s Hospital Toy Drive, Carteret Conquers Cancer Walk, among other philanthropic events. Our NEHS students are dedicated to using their academic and social leadership skills to enhance the many different integral parts of our school’s climate!
